The Short Version

Australian-based Amazon Sellers operating in international markets may be eligible for cash refunds through the Australian Government’s Export Market Development Grant (EMDG).

The grant allows Australian businesses to rapidly grow their exports, and we help Amazon Sellers navigate the complexities of applying for the EMDG and securing refunds to support your business.

Who is eligible for the grant?

To be eligible for the EMDG, you need to be an international seller - for example, selling on the Amazon US or UK marketplaces - and you need to provide evidence that your products were either made or developed in Australia.

Your application needs to show that a significant amount of your product’s value was created here. We ensure all your product information is documented properly for assessment.

EMDG cash refunds

You may be entitled for a refund of up to 50% on your eligible costs, to a maximum value of $150,000 each year.

The maximum grant you may be entitled to each year depends on the grant Tier that you are eligible for and the annual budget allocated for grants by the Government.

You can apply for 8 grant years in total.

The EMDG covers a broad range of marketing expenses connected to your international sales. The typical expenses of an Amazon Seller that may qualify for a refund include:

  • International trademarks and patents 

How to apply for the grant

Applications are made for a 2-year or 3-year grant agreement depending on your tier eligibility.
